An 18-year-old girl from Mororia village in Keiyo North Sub-county is appealing to well-wishers for Sh1.5 million to enable her undergo treatment for breast cancer in South Africa.
Her life dream of becoming a medical doctor will be shuttered if she will not get the assistance to treat the condition.
The girl’s mother Edna Moraa and father, Daniel Mutuku narrated how they spent money taking her to herbalists for treatment and upon noticing no change, they took her to Iten County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
“After a scan in Iten, we were referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was diagnosed with double breast cancer,” the mother said.
She said they were then referred to a hospital in South Africa and told the treatment was to cost Sh.1.5 million.
The father said he works in a hotel and has four other children to look after, adding that they had a fundraising as a family and managed to raise Sh.20, 000 only.
“We are forced to watch her helplessly as she continues to stay at home without any treatment,” he said.
The girl, Joyce Kemunto (pictured) , said she started ailing last year while in Form Four at Sergoit Secondary School.
Addressing journalists at her home, Kemunto said she dropped out of school due to her condition.
“I hoped to attain an ‘A’ and study medicine but I managed to get a ‘C’ as I did not attend classes in third term,” she said.
“I am appealing to well-wishers to help me raise the amount so that I can get treatment,” she pleaded.
