Fire razes dormitory, property of unknown value lost

St Bridget’s Secondary school in Elgeyo Marakwet is counting losses after inferno razed properties of an unknown value in a dormitory.
The fire destroyed students’ belongings leaving the students in the cold.
Speaking to Education News via phone, Area Sub-county Director of education, Mr. Sylvestor Musikoyo (pictured) said students were not injured during the incident.
He said the fire was put off by staff and villagers after it had destroyed a section of the dormitory.
“Students were in church for Sunday service when the fire broke out and therefore no one was injured,” Musikoyo said.
The director said police from Kaptagat police station were called in to investigate the incident.
“We shall get more information on the cause of the fire after police conclude investigations. We do not have the actual cause of the fire but we shall get the report,” he said.
The Sub-County boss urged schools to ensure that firefighting machines are installed in all corners of the school to evade such occurrences.
