Vihiga County Government has increased its bursary funds by Sh50 million, from Sh75 million to Sh125 million in a bid to help more needy students in the region.
County Governor, Moses Akaranga (pictured) said each ward will receive Sh5 million from the kitty for disbursement to bright but needy children, whose poor families are unable to pay their school fees.
“So far my Government has disbursed Sh2 million to each ward in the County,” Governor Akaranga noted.
Speaking to Education News in an exclusive interview, the Governor revealed that tremendous progress had been made the Education sector in the area, adding that Kaimosi Friends University College of Science and Technology had made some good progress in student enrollment.
“The student enrolment has reached 600 and is still increasing due to rising demand for its academic programmes,” he observed.
The County boss noted that two constituent colleges of the university were set to be opened in due course at Vokoli and Ebunangwe in Sabatia and Emuhaya sub-counties respectively.
