Row brews over location of new varsity

Our Reporter

A row is brewing over the location of a proposed university with a legislator threatening to lead mass protest if the institution was not located in Ndaragwa.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i has given Ol Kolau town the nod to host the new university at Salient Secondary School. However, Ndaragwa MP Waweru Nderitu has opposed the proposal, saying the university should instead to be set up at Simbara Secondary School in his constituency. He told residents during a meeting in Ndaragwa town that all the other five constituencies in the region have technical institutions yet Ndaragwa had none.

Those who want the university located at Salient Secondary include Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho
