Govt asked to pay retired teachers to end suffering

Hundreds of retired teachers in the county are living in abject poverty since they have not been paid their terminal benefits, according to outgoing KNUT branch secretary Patrick Mwalimu Rasi (pictured).
He decried the impunity in the Ministry of Education where its officials defy the law yet they are not punished or reprimanded.
“We know the law requires employers to retain retirees on the payroll until they receive their retirement benefits. But this is not the case with Teachers Service Commission,” he said. Rasi who spoke to the press in Kilifi town has retired and plans to vie for Mtepeni Ward MCA seat. The ward is in Kilifi South Constituency. – Kese Werugha
