Parents warned on child labour

Parents have been warned against engaging children in child labour at the expense of attending school.
County Commissioner, Kutswa Olaka (pictured) expressed regret that a number of school-age children are engaged in selling charcoal packed in 50 kg bags in Kwale town and its environs instead of being in school. He said by denying children their rights to education parents are contravening the children’s Act. Olaka said that with introduction of Free Primary Education, parents are duty bound to take their children to school.
Golini Chief in Kwale Ali Matsudzo confirmed to the commissioner that child labour is rampant in the region.
